Please join YM/WREA in supporting the 30th Annual New York Cares Coat Drive to ensure that fewer New Yorkers go without a coat this winter. Help support this great organization and cause by placing drop-off boxes in your buildings’ lobbies.
This year, the number of children, seniors, and families in need of warm coats is higher than ever. 60,000 New Yorkers without permanent homes spend their nights in various municipal shelters. 23,000 of those people are children, who often must spend their days in the cold. By rallying your community, you are making a difference for so many New Yorkers, who might otherwise be forced to choose between buying a coat and putting food on the table.
Getting your coat drive started is simple!
1. Select dates to hold your Coat Drive. The Coat Drive runs now thru December 31st and you can hold your drive any time between those dates. We recommend running it for at least two weeks. 2. Set up a collection bin in a high-traffic area. Decorate with the attached poster and provide the attached receipts for donors. Folks can also register here to have collateral mailed to them and also have their efforts tracked.
3. Publicize your Coat Drive: Spread the word about your drive to get others involved. Ideas Include: throw a coat drive kick-off party, have a friendly competition between departments, send reminder emails, post an announcement on your website, or give each participant a bag to take home and fill with coats.
4. Drop off collected coats: For large donations (greater than 2 large bags), donations must be dropped off at the Coat Drive Warehouse’s loading dock located at 157 West 31st Street (M-F 9:30am – 4:30pm). Smaller donations can be dropped off at any NYPD police precinct. Please use the attached packing sticker to label each bag with your name and the amount of coats in each bag.
